A Huge And Iconic Lubbock Bar Is Coming Back Under A New Name
Are the days of huge bars over?
My guess is actually "no". I just don't think we've had one that's really captured everyone's attention. These things seem to come and go in waves. Maybe it is time for everyone to meet up on Saturday nights for drinks and a little fellowship.
The club formerly known as Roadhouse Ruby's, Wild West, Lonesome Dove, and Lucky's Roadhouse has rebranded over the last couple of days. Yesterday I notice the lettering spelling out "Cowpokes" and this morning I noticed they added a stylized cow skull (not unlike the logo for the band Texas Hippie Coalition). In addition, there was some sweet-colored lighting around the building (if it was there before, I didn't notice).
I guess at this point I'll tell you that this post will be more about speculation and nostalgia than details because I have none. I only hope the new club is successful and is open to hosting a rock show or two. I have incredibly fond memories of hosting FMX Birthday Bashes there as well as other shows from people like Jack White. I love the two-story setup that lets you look down on the stage. That location even has a secret third story, that so far none of the previous tenants have taken advantage of.
It appears from the old Lucky's Facebook that they began hiring staff on the 15th and that this may be more of a transition and rebrand rather than a total makeover. Apparently, the club is hoping for a "mixed-use" situation to bring in different crowds on different nights. No matter what they choose, we wish them much luck!
