A Loving Shout Out To These Unsung Lubbock Heroes
Dear Lubbock Blood Donors,
I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your selfless and heroic act of regularly donating blood.
I wish I could count myself amongst you, however, I developed the unfortunate habit of routinely passing out during the process. I hope to overcome that soon.
Please know that you are seen and appreciated for your time, responsibility, and bravery. Getting a big needle poke isn't the best sensation, but you routinely shrug it off.
When you donate blood, you save the lives of people who:
• undergo a serious surgery
• have been in a car accident
• have been the victim of a violent crime
• mothers who have just given birth
• and their babies
• cancer patients
• chronic illnesses like Sickle Cell and Lupus
• and many more.
Every 2 seconds, really just the blink of an eye, someone in the U.S. needs whole blood or platelets, meaning approximately 29,000 units of red blood cells are needed every day.
Platelets are vital for life-saving measures and the formulation of much-needed medicines for serious illnesses.
Most of us want to make the world a little better, so we donate old clothes or change and we volunteer here and there. Does it really make a difference?
I sure like to think so, but when you donate blood, you can be certain that you are helping a real person in a very real way.
Thank you, blood donors, you are the real unsung heroes of Lubbock!
