
Big In Texas: Why Our Massive Economy Outweighs Many Countries
If you're from Texas, chances are you've heard that, economically speaking, we could be our own country. And looking at the numbers, that's simply...true!
Naturally, our economic ranking versus entire countries stays in flux, so if you hear someone say that money-wise we'd be the richest "Xth" in the world- that's subject to change.
As of the writing of this article, Texas has a Gross State Product (GSP) of $2.2 trillion, according to Ibis World.
This means that if we were a country, our Gross Domestic Product (GDP) would rank #11 out of the world.

This would put us right behind Canada and before Russia, according to World Population Review.
#1 is, you probably guessed, the United States followed by China, Germany, and Japan, respectively.
So where is all this wealth coming from?
The biggest contributor to Texas' GDP is the sector of real estate, rental, and leasing. It is followed by manufacturing, professional, scientific, and technical services, and then mining.

Texas has an incredibly low unemployment rank- we are currently #2 out of every state. Texas is also very populous, meaning plenty of people are working to make all that money. The biggest employment sector is healthcare and social services, followed by retail.
Texas continues to be an economic powerhouse, and it's exciting to see what the future holds for the Lone Star Country, I mean, State.
