Black Stone Cherry has played the Hub City many times. Being totally honest, I've never really felt like Lubbock 'got it.' All of that changed Tuesday night in the Hub City at X-Fest 2016.

Black Stone Cherry had the crowd in the palm of their hands the entire show. The crowd was completely engaged, singing along and rocking their faces off. Black Stone Cherry just flat killed it.

Before taking the stage, we were able to visit with the boys backstage. We talked about the death of Prince, cover songs and the new album, "Kentucky."

While we at radio are still rocking with In Our Dreams, the album features some great stand out tracks like The Rambler and Long Ride.

Singer Chris Robertson touched on the recording process and the thought process behind recording "Kentucky."

"It was the first time that we've been able to go in the studio and do a record all on our own," said Robertson. "We switched record labels, and part of our thing was we just wanted to be left alone to make the music. So we went back home in the studio in Kentucky and made a record on our own without anyone's outside opinions, and I think it's the best record we've made so far."

The band also touched on how important Prince was to the music world and how he'll be greatly missed.

"Prince was one of the most underrated guitar players of all time," said Black Stone Cherry's lead singer Chris Robertson. "Everyone knows Prince for the way he dressed and his songs, but his guitar playing..."

"It's kind of been a weird year, it seems like a lot of people are passing away, a lot of the legends are dying out and it's sad," said bassist Ben Wells, who explained how the band is currently using Prince as their intro music. "He was for sure the whole package: singer, songwriter, guitar player, performer. Even if you weren't the biggest Prince fan, go to any big person like that, be it Michael Jackson or Elvis...you had to be influenced by some facet of their career, whether you're a huge fan of them or not."

Black Stone Cherry is one of those anomaly bands that are HUGE overseas (four no. 1 albums in the U.K.) and headline over bands they open for here. It's really crazy.

I hope you enjoy our visit with the boys. Watch the full video above.
