I hope to keep this as nonpartisan as possible.

Religion, politics, and your ding-dong are three things that probably ought to stay behind closed doors, but for some reason people insist on dragging all three out in public.

Personally, I have very strong thoughts on all of the above, although I really only mention the third one in passing. Religion and politics? People get way too sensitive, so I generally chuck both of those topics straight out the window.

Sometimes, though, being a morning-show host means the news hands you comedy that’s already written.

Over the weekend, a statewide political candidate made an appearance at a local church. That alone is enough to make things potentially awkward. Then someone showed up to protest the appearance and started yelling accusations at the politician.

Probably not the most productive strategy. If anything, causing a scene usually just gives the person you’re protesting even more attention.

But here’s where the story took a turn.

As the protester was being physically escorted out of the church, somebody in the congregation could reportedly be heard yelling:

“P@$$Y-A$$ B!T@H!”

Yep. Right there in the Lord’s house.

That’s where politics officially turned into comedy.

You’ve got one guy being dragged out, another guy apparently deciding this is his moment to play tough guy, and all of it happening inside a church.

So now everybody involved gets to be embarrassed.

Whatever your politics may be, there’s something deeply ironic about a political confrontation inside a place of worship ending with somebody screaming an insult that would make a bouncer blush.

And maybe the strangest part is how quickly the whole story seemed to disappear.

Politics is going to keep showing up in churches, protesters are going to keep showing up at political appearances, and apparently somebody will always be standing nearby ready to make the entire situation even dumber.
