A fire broke out in the early morning hours of Wednesday at the beloved Happy's Shaved Ice. Now we know why.

According to Katy with Happy's Shaved Ice, surveillance footage from inside the shop showed the Lubbock Fire Department exactly what happened.

"Out of nowhere at 1:21 a.m., the shaver miraculously turned on. And then, at 1:23 a.m., it burst into flames," she explained. "The fire went for 30 minutes, and then somebody from United, I guess a nighttime worker, saw that there was smoke from the building and called, and then [the Lubbock Fire Department] came and had to break down the door and get it put out."

If no one had seen the fire and it burned beyond 30 minutes, Katy said she believes the building would have been completely destroyed. The damage is still severe, but Katy and her partner Tyler hope to have Happy's back open within a week or so.

"We're both go-getters, and we've built Happy's and we love it and we love to serve and love the community," she said. "We're gonna do whatever we can in our power to do that."
