I've been learning to play the guitar with Fret Zealot for a few weeks now, and I'm really enjoying myself. I started with zero experience, and now, I have the majority of the chords down, without even thinking much about it.

I have a really busy life, working in radio. It may seem like we just hang out on the morning show each day, and talk about whatever, and then go home ... but this is not the case. We spend hours preparing for shows, writing jokes, and looking for on-air content. My day is packed full of things to do. Not to mention all of the commercials and voice tracking I take care of in the afternoons before I leave for the day. Most of the time when I get done with my work day, I just want fast food and a nap with my cats.

When you get home from a busy day, the last thing you think you'd want to do is attempt to conquer a new instrument. Let me assure you, the lessons with Fret Zealot are easy, fast, broken down into small pieces, and totally doable.

In just 20 or so minutes a day, you can teach yourself a TON about playing the guitar.

I was skeptical when I started, and now, I feel like I have a little bit of momentum behind me. I'm not ready to share a whole video with you guys yet, because well, I'm a bit shy. I've played music for years, and it seriously takes a lot for me to share a new song I write on the piano.

The guitar? It's a totally different story. BUT...

So far, I really like what I've learned. Each day, I go home excited to start a new lesson and learn just a small portion of what it takes to become a great guitarist. I honestly spend about 20 minutes per course, and then I practice in my spare time. I'm building my way toward learning some of my favorite songs. One of the best things about the program is that there are literally tens of thousands of songs to choose from, and they offer all of the different genres you love the most.

All their lessons on music theory are really wonderful, and not only do I love Nirvana, but their songs are perfect for first-time learners. (Check out their Nirvana lessons here.) They even have some of my favorite underground bands that I never realized anyone knew about but me.

If you are looking for a thoughtful gift for your teenager that is interested in music, this is definitely one to check out. My boyfriend's son and all of his friends LOVE messing around with my guitar and learning new songs with the Fret Zealot program. I literally can't keep them away from it. I look up, and another teenager is holding the guitar, strumming along to Metallica.

I'm excited to see what the future holds, and I can't wait to share a video with you of a complete song. It's coming. Stay tuned, and check out FretZealot.com for more details!
