Chrome Y Cultura Car Show Coming To Lubbock July 25

Cars, kids and culture will all come together in Lubbock this Saturday.

The Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas Lubbock Chapter is presenting the Chrome y Cultura Car Show, and I think the event’s official tagline celebrates the idea perfectly: “Celebrating Heritage. Driving Futures.”

The event will take place Saturday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the YWCA Lubbock parking lot at 6501 University Avenue. For those of you who are truly old-school Lubbock, that is the former Kmart location.

More Than a Car Show

This should be a large event, and they certainly have plenty of room to make it happen. In addition to rows of polished cars and some serious competition, organizers are promising awards in a number of categories.

The Kid Zone will include a playground, a Hot Wheels race track, Jenga, Connect Four, bubbles and other family activities. They are even advertising a new axe-throwing experience, so there should be plenty happening beyond the car show itself.

There is no official mention of food trucks, but I would not be surprised to see a couple parked nearby. Should that not happen, there is a Dairy Queen right there for anyone needing treats, eats or a place to cool down.

This is going to be a hot one, with the event running through the middle of the day. Make sure everyone stays hydrated, wears sunscreen and takes advantage of whatever shaded areas or canopies are available.

This is exactly the type of event we need more of in Lubbock—something that brings different generations and parts of the community together for a positive day.

I am happy to know a few of the wonderful women behind this event. They use events like Chrome y Cultura to support scholarships and empower the community. That is the official way of saying they care about people, especially kids, and they are willing to put in the work to make a difference.
