You have a little under three weeks to decide whether you’re ready for a pet.

Having a pet can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. That companionship can give you purpose, lift your spirits, and give you somewhere to put all that love you have to give. I’m sure that, given enough time, I could come up with a hundred pros—and probably a few cons—to owning a pet.

Let’s not forget that some sacrifices are involved. You have to feed them, keep them healthy, and make sure they receive the attention they deserve. They need your companionship, patience, and a little understanding when they don’t realize they’re misbehaving.

Clear the Shelters Returns August 22

So, when you’re ready, there’s a perfect event coming up Saturday, August 22. It’s the Clear the Shelters event at Lubbock Animal Services, located at 3323 Southeast Loop 289. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and adoption fees will be waived.

Right now, there’s a perfect friend waiting for you—even if the match doesn’t immediately feel perfect. Sometimes the shy dog hiding in the back of the kennel or the quiet cat curled up in the corner just needs a little time before showing you who they really are.

Pets adopted through Lubbock Animal Services are spayed or neutered, microchipped, treated for fleas and ticks, and brought up to date on their vaccinations. In cases where a procedure still needs to be completed, shelter staff will explain the follow-up requirements. Make sure you collect the animal’s medical and microchip records before leaving.

Lubbock’s Shelter Needs Breathing Room

Lubbock Animal Services is currently at or near capacity. They’re doing everything they can to remain responsive, but when there’s no room at the inn, there’s simply no room at the inn.

This is your chance to gain a loyal friend while giving the shelter some badly needed breathing room.

You may not be ready today, but when you’re on the fence, maybe a free adoption event is exactly what it takes to tip the scales. Circle August 22 on your calendar and go meet a furry bundle of love.
