Could The Next Coach Of The Dallas Cowboys Come From Texas Tech?
I don't care what anybody says, this could happen, and it could be a good thing.
The Opening
The Dallas Cowboys just moved on from Coach Mike McCarty. It was reported that the coach and the Cowboys couldn't come to an agreement on how long his contract should be, so someone said, well about two more minutes is enough. This leaves the Cowboys coachless and without a candidate (unless there were machinations in the background we don't know about).
The Coach
Meanwhile, former Tech player and coach Kliff Kingsbury has been doing some kind of dance with the Chicago Bears. It certainly strikes me as a Jerry Jones thing to do, to snatch a coach that somebody else has interest in. Maybe I have a wrong read on Jerry, but my personal feeling is, "why do homework when someone has done it for you?".
He's Hot
Coach Kliff would be an excellent fit for the Cowboys. Kingsbury makes great quarterbacks into legendary quarterbacks. He wakes up boring offenses. He makes appearances in the media that people listen to. He has a fan base of his own, and so on.
The Problem
What Kingsbury doesn't have, is a dominating winning record. He's done well but not "best in the league" well. One could also say he did a pretty exceptional job with an Arizona team that may not have been stacked too deep with talent.
Could It Happen?
All this is pure speculation at this point. It still could happen. Right now Kliff Kingsbury is one of the hottest head coaching prospects out there and the Dallas Cowboys need a coach. Wouldn't it be sweet if Kliff took the role in Dallas?
Note: Since publication, USA Today has also put Kingsbury on the short list.
