Hey Texas! Here’s Why The Dallas Cowboys Have No Incentive To Get Better
I have the Dallas Cowboys to thank for my teenage sanity.
Pregame
I love to troll Cowboys fans, but it comes from a place of love. It was a bit upsetting to be heading into my Junior year in High School in Southern California and find out we were moving to Texas. A lot of things were going right for me, and it was all being taken away. The day of our move was slightly uncertain so I kept going to football practice. Then one day, the teams nose-guard, an all-state potential guy, and captain of the wrestling team, came up to me and said, "Heard you were leaving for Texas...". I told him I was, and he said, "That's pretty cool, I love the Dallas Cowboys". That story may not mean much to you, but it completely changed my attitude.
First Down
The fact is, the Cowboys are too successful. I was sent the results of a survey listing the Cowboys fans as "The Most Supportive Of The Decade". Check out these numbers:
For Dallas Cowboys, the data found:
- Rank: 1
- % of Stadium Full (2013/14): 110%
- % of Stadium Full (2023/24): 117%
- % of Fans Increased/Decreased in Decade: 6%
- Online Mentions: 3,000,000
- Positive Online Conversations: 13
- Negative Online Conversations: 29
- Online Mentions by Capacity: 37.5
- Most Supportive Fanbase (0/50): 67.4
Touchdown!
Yes, Cowboys fans love their team so much and winning or losing really doesn't seem to matter. After all, how are you going to improve on 117% capacity. In fact, I'm not even sure how 117% capacity is even possible. Keep in mind this is just the last decade, at a time when the Cowboys haven't been Superbowl contenders.
The Extra Point
I actually love the fact that Texas loves the Cowboys so much. It's actually really endearing and it gives us all one thing in common (well, most of us). Not to be too cynical, but as long as the team is filling the stadium and selling the merch, there isn't much reason to push things up a level.
