Dallas Does What Lubbock Did Not With Weed Vote
I am still pretty salty about Lubbock not passing last years Proposition #1.
Lubbock Could've Been First
Lubbock had a proposition on the ballot last election that would have decriminalized marijuana possession for amounts under 4 ounces. It failed, but with 45% for, it kind of felt like a moral victory. I do not partake myself, but I felt like the lies and misinformation were so out of control. Seriously, I completely doubt the character of every single person who willingly and knowingly lied or stretched the truth thinking the end justified the means.
Dallas Passes It
In case you are wondering about the validity of the law, Dallas just passed an almost identical one. It decriminalizes less than 4 ounces and changes policy policy and procedures when they encounter marijuana. In this particular case, the measure even had members of the Dallas City Council who were bold enough to step forward and support the measure. To these folks I say, "Well done" because even in a city like Dallas, there's some risk involved with taking a stand like this.
The Big Twist
Here's where things get interesting though. More conservative people might think that the decriminalization measure just showed that the "wrong people" showed up to vote, or that peoples morals have decline a bit. This is where the M. Night Shyamalan type twist happens: the same people voted for a proposition that calls for about 900 more police officers. . To me, this proves that marijuana is incredibly mainstream, and more decriminalization measures or legalization is called for. Plus, this makes it quite clear that this issue isn't anti-police as it was portrayed in many Lubbock messages.
