After suffering a near-fatal bout with Streptococcus pneumonia, DevilDriver bassist Aaron “Bubble” Patrick has been released from the hospital. Frontman Dez Fafara tweeted the good news.

Patrick will continue to rest for at least a week before being able to get on a plane due to his weakened lungs. The pneumonia took a heavy toll on Patrick’s body; according to a previous statement by his mother Jane, it has damaged his liver, kidneys and bone marrow. In addition, he developed a case of pancreatitis.

DevilDriver are in the middle of the Metal Alliance Tour with Job for a Cowboy, Dying Fetus, 3 Inches of Blood, The Faceless, Impending Doom and Wretched. In an interview with Metal Underground published earlier this week, DevilDriver frontman Dez Fafara said, “It’s a bummer what happened. He’s been running pretty hard as well. He got back from Australia and I think it just all crashed in on him, you know.”

Patrick has been DevilDriver’s bassist since March of last year, having previously been a member of Bury Your Dead. His former bandmate Chris Towning has been filling in for him in DevilDriver while he recovers. Hopefully, Patrick will bounce back quickly and be back on stage soon.

As anyone who has been the hospital knows, the costs can be astronomical. Friends and family are trying to help raise some money for Patrick’s medical bills. PayPal donations can be sent to aarongregorypatrick@gmail.com.
