The Water Wars are back!

In my neighborhood, on the 4th of July, it's a war zone. Yes, I'm in city limits, and no, no one seems to care. I used to try to battle against it, but when I complained to the police about fireworks after 11:30 p.m., I was told, 'Well, sir, it IS the 4th of July."

Since that time, I just started joining in on the fun.

This Saturday, June 1st, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., it's the East Side Water Wars, and I certainly hope if there are any complaints, police say, "Well, ma'am, it IS the 2nd Annual East Side Water Wars."

The event invite has the all-ages fun going down at Woods Park at 599 N. Zenith, but it's the "East Side" Water Wars, and the action tends to spill out all over the place.

Yes, this is the same event where a Lubbock police officer was squirted down last year. I don't know what to tell you, but if you walk into the middle of a water war, chances are you're going to get wet.

This year, it has turned into a community affair, with cookouts and more planned. We wish everyone a safe, fun and super wet time!
