Did you know that the Storybook Capital of America is less than three hours away from Lubbock? If your children love to immerse themselves in the wonder and whimsy found in imaginary tales, then you will not want to miss out on an amazing event that is happening in just over two weeks.

The Children’s Art and Literacy Festival (CALF) occurs every year in Abilene, Texas over the second weekend in June. This family-friendly event is three days of fairy tale-themed fun.

For those who choose to make the short drive down I-20, you'll have the opportunity to explore their amazing bronze storybook sculpture collection. This features 26 classic character sets, including the Lorax, the Cat in the Hat, the Three Little Pigs and Stuart Little.

Additionally, you can enjoy the annual parade, sensational shows and story readings, stilt walkers, caricaturists, a petting zoo and so much more. You can also attend the unveiling of their newest statue, Winnie the Bear. As you may gather from the name, this fuzzy little gal was the inspiration for the famous Winnie the Pooh.

Best of all, for their 10th year they're extending the festival for an extra day for a special event at the Abilene Zoo. This will be a magical event that you won’t want to miss out on, so make sure to block off June 9th-12th. Tickets are $16 for ages 13 and up, and only $11 for kids 3 through 12. This small fee will get you admission for the entire weekend.

Make sure to check out their website for more information on this fairytale festival.
