I’m Ready For This Texas-Based Chain To Open In Lubbock
Lubbock needs another chain like a hole in the head, right? It seems like every month, a new chain restaurant or store is opening or expanding here in Lubbock. So what could we possibly be missing?
Half Price Books, A Texas Orginal
While Lubbock does have a Barnes & Noble, 2nd & Charles, and Second Chance Books, I really do think the readers of Lubbock could support a Half Price Books. Founded in Dallas in the 1970s, Half Price Books sells new and used media of all types at affordable prices, and they always seem to have the best quality planners (yes, I still use a physical planner and you're going to have to bury me with one, too.)

Admittedly, I am a big book hoarder and never sell back any books I've read, opting instead to fill my house to the brim with them. However, I do love to buy used books that are in great condition, because it's better for the environment and it saves me a lot on the cover price.
Luckily, Lubbock Does Have A Great Monthly Option
The Friends of the Library sale happens one weekend every month, with Fridays reserved for members (becoming a member is inexpensive and easy). The basement of the Mahon library is filled with used books at very affordable prices, and it is difficult to leave without a big box of books. They have a "Better Books" section with high-quality, desirable titles that are individually priced, and plenty of hardbacks and softcovers that are extremely affordable at set prices. There are many titles for kids, too. And plenty of books in every category- I usually pick up history books, novels, cookbooks, etc.

Ultimately, It's About The Expereince
Most Lubbock folks agree that what we need most are things to do. Lubbock is somewhat lacking in amenities- there is no zoo, for example- and anything that provides an experience has every opportunity to do well, so long as its an affordable option that people know about.
