Estacado vs Andrews was Peak Texas High School Football
I love Texas High School Football. For the last 20 years, I've either been playing in the band, on the field, in the stands in the booth, or at the studio on Friday night. Most of the games are forgettable, but every now and again, there's an absolute classic that reminds you why you love the sport.
Estacado and Andrews had one of those classics on Friday night October, 14th.
Estacado took a 12-point lead into halftime after scoring 20 points in the second quarter. Andrews scored 14-points of their own in the quarter to make it 26-14 in the Matadors' favor.
During that first half, Bobby Ross of Estacado was an absolute beast.
Cedric Ross also skated for a 47-yard touchdown.
The third quarter was about even with Andrews edging a point close by scoring a touchdown and a two-point conversion, while Estacado managed a touchdown of their own and an extra point.
The end of the 3rd quarter was 33-22.
Andrews would not go away though, they stormed back in the 4th quarter to 36 points, Estacado would only manage a field goal in the 4th quarter but that would leave them tied at 36 all heading to overtime.
Estacado was actually up 33-14 before Andrews started their run, outscoring the Matadors 22-3 in the final stretch of the game.
In overtime, it was all Matadors.
Andrews couldn't score while the Matadors caught a walk-off touchdown.
Well, a walk-off after a little conversation with the refs.
Another angle.
