Even The Tampa Bay Bucs Receivers Were Amazed by Patrick Mahomes
With NFL Films releasing more footage from the Super Bowl this past Sunday we're starting to see some behind-the-scenes action from the sidelines and the Bucs receivers were in awe of the quarterback. No, not their quarterback. The surefire Hall of Famer who was in the midst of leading them to a Super Bowl championship, his 7th Lombardi Trophy.
They were amazed by Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin couldn't believe how Mahomes was getting out of trouble and getting the ball down the field. "Mahomes is unbelievable!" Evans exclaims early in the video below.
"How did he? Yo. AY. Yo. Yo. Yo. Yo, He's a magician." Godwin continues. "I'm convinced." Somebody says "Who?" in response and Godwin explains, "Number 15! The one who just be spinning around then out of nowhere throws the ball backward... with a left hand."
Godwin doubles down that Mahomes is a magician when he and Evans are discussing a play where the Kansas City quarterback is running around for seemingly 18 seconds before still getting the ball off accurately down the field. Here's the conversation the Bucs receivers have, which sounds a lot like me and my friends watching Mahomes for the last seven years.
"How did he do that?"
"I don't know."
"He's back there for like 18 seconds."
"Bro, he's a magician. I don't know how he does that."
You can take that dialogue and put it in bars across the country and it be just another Sunday, but the fact that the receivers of the opposite team are in awe of the stylings of Mahomes when they catch balls thrown by Tom Brady for a living makes the words mean a little more. The respect of your peers is what everyone strives for sports.
That and championships.
