The days are growing shorter and hopefully we'll get some relief soon.

Pandemic Mode

I promise you, in the future it will say we were still in some kind of post-pandemic mode in August of 2024. Every little trespass against us seems to be magnified. Even simple things like the weather seem to be much more of a burden than they used to be. Our current heat-wave feels like a never ending slog. I'm sure it won't be too long before we're complaining about the cold, but we are certainly nowhere near there yet.

Shorter Days

One sign that cooler weather is on the way is the days growing shorter. It's fairly simple, a shorter day means less sun and less sun usually means less heat. As of August 8th our sunset is happening at 8:40 p.m. and we knock a minute or two off of that each day. So, when will we hit the half hour mark? The answer is....soon!

Mark This Date

Coming up on August 17th we'll have sunset at exactly 8:30 p.m., meaning August 18th we'll officially be under that time at 8:29 p.m. It doesn't look like we'll have an amazing amount of heat relief at that time, but it does put us a few steps forward in our journey.

And After That?

So what's the next big milestone date on the Calendar? On October 1st sunset will be at 7:30! From there we'll look toward to October 26th with sunset happening at 7:00! Yes, it's all a long ways away, but relief is on the way! Things get really wacky in November when the sun will set at 5:52 on November 3rd. If that seems like a big jump, it's because that's the day the clocks move back an hour.
