The fire was eventually upgraded to a second alarm, meaning it had escalated and more firefighters were needed to help put it out.

It's been indicated the vehicle that caught on fire could have possibly been located inside the Sun Metro center. The building walls and roof collapsed during the fire. By 7 pm, the fire was considered "knocked down" but crews were still checking the area for hotspots.

According to the US Forestry Service, the blaze was a category 4 fire. Category 4 fires are typically characterized as long-lasting and rapid-spreading, with the ability to produce "very high" levels of danger.

So far in 2025, there have been 71 VIIRS fires reported in Texas that were considered "high confidence." Global First Watch says that's a low number compared to previous years. The most fire events reported in one year in Texas was in 2022, with a whopping 2,040 fires. Hopefully, this year will stay on the light side. We shall see.
