It’s tough staying dedicated to one job, but I guess I’m your guy.

Yes, I’m writing this about myself — but that wild headline was just to grab your attention so I could tell you something important: you have my eternal gratitude.

I started at FMX in 1981, then I took short detours to Austin and Spokane, Washington, and have been back ever since. That’s 40 years of rockin’ Lubbock, Texas. I would not be here without the people who’ve supported me through all of it.

Make no mistake, FMX is a banger of a radio station that I’d put up against nearly any rock station anywhere. It’s been a point of pride to keep this place rockin’, partly out of passion and partly out of sheer stubbornness. Stubbornness? Maybe a little — I figured if I was going to plant roots in Lubbock, I might as well shape the station and as much of the town as I could into a place I wanted to stay.

Wes Nessman: 40 Years, 10,000 Posts — Still Rockin’ Lubbock

All of this brings me to a milestone: this is my official 10,000th post. Of course, I’ve written on other systems, for other outlets, and under pen names (when I wrote for HorrorWeb, I went by Franky Ramone). Still, 10,000 is a mighty big number, and it just felt right to mark the moment with a post of its own.

So that’s why we’re here. Thank you for supporting me not only for 40 years, but for 10,000 posts. The radio world took a weird left turn somewhere along the way, and you helped me navigate it. So, keep that radio turned up, keep clickin’ my byline — and let’s see if we can keep this train running until it finally jumps the tracks.

Again… thank you. 💚
