During the Texas summers, I always wear a foundation with plenty of SPF sun protection. I like protecting my skin while making it appear as flawless as possible,

However, the benefits of the SPF could be outweighed by the consequences- if your foundation has an unacceptable amount of mold.

According to the FDA, Suntegrity Skincare recently recalled its Suntegrity Impeccable Skin Sunscreen Foundation in multiple shades for an unacceptable level of Aspergillus Sydowii mold.

Shades recalled include Ivory, Nude, Buff, Sand, Bronze, and Mocha. If you have any of these shades, check the lot numbers and expiration dates listed here to see if your item is part of the recall. Discontinue using it immediately.

Aspergillus Sydowii mold can cause allergic skin reactions, fungal skin infections, or eye infections. So far, no adverse reactions to this product have been reported.

Suntegrity Skincare is sold online and in some aesthetic clinics. Consumers may either exchange their item for store credit at the point of purchase, or exchange for a new tube of the 5-in-1 Tinted Sunscreen and also receive a free gift by contacting Suntegrity directly via email at ImpeccableSkinRecall@SuntegritySkincare.com.

Remember that any makeup product can get moldy past its expiration date, after it has been open for too long, or by being mishandled.

Products that go directly near the eye like mascara and eyeliner should be replaced after six months. Most other products should be replaced after being open for a year.

While it is tempting to keep powder products longer (like eyeshadow palettes) remember to check for any change in the pigmentation or texture of the product- that could easily indicate mold.

If you have space to store your makeup outside the bathroom, you should. Mold loves humid environments, and your steamy showers create a fantastic living space for fungus, mold, and other microorganisms.
