Restaurants Within Walking Distance Of Galaxy Stadium

Galaxy Stadium serves up classic stadium food.

I recently went through the food choices at Galaxy Stadium, and they're pretty basic. Delicious, sure, but basic. We're talking hot dogs, barbecue and the kind of stuff you'd expect to eat while watching a game.

I didn't even spot a place to grab something as mildly exotic as a taco.

So if stadium food isn't really hitting for you, you might want to grab something before or after the game. The good news is there are quite a few restaurants within walking distance of the stadium.

Now, I'm using the term "walking distance" a little generously here. Some of these are going to require a decent hike, but on a nice game day, they're certainly doable if you're hungry enough.

Tacos Near Galaxy Stadium

Let's start with those tacos I couldn't find inside the stadium.

You've actually got a pretty solid selection nearby:

• Now We Taco'n Taqueria — 1021 University Ave., Unit 1025
• Torchy's Tacos — 2407 9th St.
• Velvet Taco — 2401 Glenna Goodacre Blvd.
• CHEVELAND — 411 University Ave., Suite 100

That's enough variety to satisfy just about any taco craving before kickoff or after the final whistle.

Burgers And Sandwiches Near Galaxy Stadium

If burgers and sandwiches are more your speed, you've got a couple of choices:

• Spanky's — 811 University Ave.
• Firehouse Subs Texas Tech — 411 University.

Then we get into the miscellaneous category, and honestly, this is where things get a little more interesting.

A Little Bit Of Everything

Snooze, an A.M. Eatery — 413 University Ave., Suite 200 — is mostly breakfast and brunch food, which could be perfect for an early game. Snooze Lubbock

Dreamers Bistro — 1003 University Ave. — offers Korean corn dogs, sushi, bento boxes and plenty of other stuff that's a little different from your normal game-day food.

One Guy From Italy University — 1101 University Ave. — is there when you need some epic pizza or one of their famous calzones.

Roni's Mac Bar - Lubbock — 2400 Glenna Goodacre Blvd., Suite 106A — lets you build your own mac and cheese, which sounds like exactly the kind of meal you might need after yelling at referees for three hours.

There are also several familiar chains close enough to consider.

Chick-fil-A at Raider Park is at 312 University Ave.

Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers is at 907 University Ave.

And IHOP is at 1627 University Ave. and is open 24 hours, making it a pretty handy option if the game runs late.

So, there you go.

If the idea of hot dogs and barbecue inside Galaxy Stadium isn't doing it for you, you definitely aren't trapped. There are tacos, burgers, sandwiches, pizza, Korean corn dogs, sushi, breakfast and enough other options nearby to make a pretty respectable pregame or postgame meal.

You're just going to need some good walking shoes.
