Strange But True, Texas Releases a Secret Weapon, A Goat Army
Texas innovation helped solve a problem by looking to the past.
A Simple Plan
"Common Sense" is really not that great of a phrase. What is "common" to me, may not be "common" to you, so no one should really be questioned when they didn't think of the obvious. This is one of those situations that some will describe as common sense, but it's actually a bit innovative.
The Army Of Goats
Let's get right to it. Arlington rented a professionally managed army of over 400 goats to clear weeds and brush out of an area. When the goats get together they start "competitive eating". It's unknown how quickly they ate their way through this area, but previous experiments have show that 100 goats can clear an acre in three days.
Environmental
When you get right down to it, this is an awesome environmental approach to land management. On the other hand, where do you rent over 400 goats? Okay, right here I was going to make a joke about going to the "Goats R Us" store. The only thing that prevented me from doing that is...THERE ACTUALLY IS A "GOATS R US" store. Okay, it's just a website, but it's goatsrus.com and yes, they do rent goats for the same reason that Arlington needed them.
Let's Go!
I'm all about this, and I'm wondering if the goats would eat the tumbleweeds of West Texas before they start tumblin'? It would be worth it to rent a goat army just to improve the safety of my area. I also think the goats should only have to work a couple days, and on the last day, a goat petting zoo would open, where we can tell they goats thank you and give them all the petting they can handle.
Kudos!
Arlington does deserve a high-five for using this simple, natural approach to a problem. Using the goats helped clear an invasive plant, fire hazards, and more. Texas, and the world definitely need more goat-scaping.
