Have You Noticed Josh Jung’s Spectacular Neck?
Josh Jung spent several seasons at Texas Tech as a 3rd baseman and short stop while displaying a prolific adeptness to swinging a baseball bat. That skill and hard work showed enough at Texas Tech to allow Jung to be drafted highly in the MLB draft to the Texas Rangers.
Since the draft, Jung has been continuing his hard work and has earned the Rangers' No. 1 prospect ranking on both MLB Pipeline and Baseball America. He's also now participating in his first big league camp.
With more national coverage surround Jung's baseball career and the Texas Rangers youth movement heading into the season there are whispers that Jung could be with the Rangers sooner rather than later. I mean, the Rangers need a third baseman and their top prospect is a third baseman these dots don't take a rocket surgeon to connect.
The Rangers have added Jung to the AAA roster which means he'll likely open the season in Round Rock for the Express which is the Rangers AAA affiliate. If you ask the guys at Talkin' Baseball though, Jung has a Major League ready neck.
"Can I tell you something about Josh Jung?" Former major leaguer Trevor Plouffe opens the clip, "Great, great neck. Really nice neck on Josh, which makes me think, 'I'm excited about this guy now.'"
"That's AWESOME" Jomboy, one of the hosts, exclaimed as he flipped Jung's Red Raider roster picture around. He continued, "You don't know to describe a good neck, but when you see one you're like, 'Damn, that's a nice neck.'"
"That's a powerful neck, that looks like some people's thigh!" Another host practically yells.
"It has the length as well, it's not just the girth." Plouffe contended.
Here's a more current picture of Jung's neck so you can get a good look:
It certainly ticks a lot of boxes on the quality neck checklist. Jung the baseball player also checks a lot of boxes and the Texas Rangers like Josh Jung and think he embodies the culture that the team is creating, "Obviously this guy's has never played a game in the major leagues," Manager Chris Woodward told SI.com. "Just from an attitude [standpoint], who he is as a person, his behavior, everything, he resembles exactly what we're looking for."
Could we hear the great Chuck Morgan say, "Josh Jung, third baseman, number 70*, Josh Jung" at some point this season? It certainly sounds like we might.
*the footnote here is that the number 70 stinks but it's what Jung has as a non-roster guy. That will not be his number when he's eventually added to the 40-man or at least I hope it won't be because, again, that number stinks for a cool baseball player.
