Ghostly Legends Surround Lubbock’s Abandoned Train Trestle
Hell's Gates is a spooky location where many go to test their fears.
There is no doubt that the area in Lubbock known as Hell's Gates is spooky. I think just the words "Abandoned Train Trestle" say it all. What I need is more backstory, so I'm here to give it one.
The Doomed Lovers of Lubbock's Hell's Gates
There was a time in Lubbock when the train trestle behind the Lubbock Cemetery was a hustling, bustling hub of commerce. The train would bring much-needed supplies to Lubbock and take our abundant cotton crops to market. It also brought with it railroad workers and people from all over the world.
One of these railroad workers was a frequent visitor to the Hub City, and before too long, he was mixing it up with the locals. One day he fell head over heels in love with a beautiful Lubbock girl. There was a problem, though — her family was well-to-do and had serious objections to their daughter dating what they called "train-trash."
The star-crossed lovers had to take their relationship out of the public and into the shadows, meeting at locations in town where they could not be seen. One night, they decided to meet on the train trestles behind the Lubbock Cemetery. They walked out on the tracks from their opposite ends of town and made a decision that would forever haunt their families.
The couple decided then and there that if they couldn't be together in life, they could be together in death. They exchanged passionate kisses and tried to ignore the rumbling coming down the tracks. Fortunately for them, death was quick — but they were soon to find out, it was also unforgiving. The couple is now doomed to haunt the spot of their love. Fortunately, they find it their mission to scare others away so that a train doesn’t take their lives as well.

(Just to be clear, the above is a work of fiction. No real reason has ever been given for why this area of town could or would be "haunted.")
