In case you don't know, there have been "scheduled fighting times" at area high schools.

It's unclear if there have been any actual fights because of these memes going around, but it still creates a degree of tension and ruins the high school experience for some.

I've also seen parents concerned about a "fight week" at one high school, with a reported "28 fights in one week." Once again, it's unclear how much of this is true and how much is a rumor. I'm hoping that it's just high school drama.

Here's what I can tell you. When I was in 6th grade, seemingly out of nowhere, we pretty much hit a civil war. Everybody was split into two sides, and we started packing knives, clubs, chains and whatever else we could get our hands on. This went through 7th and 8th grade. One poor kid was actually beaten badly and gang initials were carved into his forehead with a knife. Things were really, really grim.

Then, something amazing happened. When I became a freshman in high school, all that nonsense just went away. It was like it never happened. Everyone grew up and realized there were better things to do than fight.

It seems we have some kids around here that haven't grown up. Fighting isn't impressive and it gets you nowhere. It only gets you labeled as an immature troublemaker. There will be no point in your life when you look back and you will be proud of that behavior. It really is the high school equivalent of s***-ing your diaper.

By all means, if you are being picked on and you can't get any help, you need to defend yourself. But the bullies and the people who fight 'for fun' are just ignorant children who need to grow up.
