If You’re Not Eating At This Lubbock Barbeque Joint, You’re Missing Out
I cannot rave enough about my favorite barbeque place.
I don't know if I'm what you call a "foodie". To me, a "foodie" is someone who likes to go a lot of places and go on culinary adventures. I'm more into cooking, and occasionally finding a great place for take-out (yes, I prefer take-out to dine-in so I can be a little more relaxed). So to meet this and other criteria, I am VERY picky about where I eat, and how often I go back.
This is why one of my personal new favorite places is a place that many of you have known about for years, and that's The Shack Barbeque. Yes, people have already raved about The Shack but due to their location, I think they occasionally get forgotten about. The Shack is a true Texas barbeque joint. It tends to be informal and really about feeding you big portions of smoked meats and amazing sides with little fanfare.
My order is always the same and it's the "Shack Pack". It's a "family pack situation" that's presented somewhat as a meal for four that I get eight or more meals out of. This week's tab was $53.00 (all in). That may seem pricey to some, but for the amount of food you get it's a tremendous value. It's one pound of beef (sliced or chopped), one pound of another (pulled pork pictured), four buns, four sides (or two pints), barbeque sauce, jalapenos, onions, and pickles. Just look at these meats glistening in the light:
The real story is, those two types of meat pictured above are AFTER three people had already made giant, stacked sandwiches. It will take me at least two days to go through most of this and I'll still have some for the freezer. I also opted for delicious beans and potato salad (other sides are available). The staff insisted I try a dessert, which ended up being some amazing, still warm, mixed-berry cobbler.
Let's talk about the meat too. It is far too easy to dry out the meat when barbequing. The Shack keeps their meat moist and delicious. The meat is trimmed to perfection by someone who apparently has ninja-like knife skills. I just cannot think of a better word to describe it than "perfect".
The ONLY downside to The Shack is they are not social media experts. It can be a bit hard to track down online information, so just remember this number (806) 416-1283 (they're very good about helping you through your order), or make your first visit in person at 2309 North Frankford
The place is awesome, and the staff is great. A true Texas treasure.
