Water Main Break Impacts UMC and Surrounding Areas
According to a source from Lubbock’s University Medical Center, the City of Lubbock has discovered a water main break near Marsha Sharp and Avenue Q. This incident is causing water supply issues to surrounding areas, including the hospital. UMC is actively working to monitor water levels and pressure, keeping an eye on the issue at hand.
All UMC buildings are still operational. The water supply issue impacts the use of restrooms, patient showers, ice machines, and other primary water sources in a few key areas, including the East Tower, Emergency Center, and Radiology.
UMC is actively working on the problem and more information will be added to this article as it comes.
Past Incidents
UMC has experienced similar problems in the past when a water main break in 2010 left the hospital without water. The problem was fixed without any cancelations or delays to surgical procedures.
A quote from Greg Bruce, the UMC Vice President at the time, said, "Fortunately we didn't have any delay in surgical procedures, no cancellations. We also have bottled water that is available to our patients for medication and their use in events like this."
