Lubbock Drivers Can Fuel Up and Help Their Schools at the Same Time

And starting this week, Lubbock drivers have a pretty easy way to help support local schools without doing anything extra, other than picking the right pump.

Fill Up, Show Your School Spirit

Lubbock ISD is teaming up with Toot'n Totum for the second annual Spirit Pumps program, and this one turns an ordinary trip to the gas station into a little school pride...and a little money for school safety.

Starting now, every gallon of fuel pumped at one of the designated Spirit Pumps will generate a five-cent donation from Toot'n Totum directly to that high school.

The money will go toward school safety and security initiatives.

The Spirit Pumps are hard to miss, too. They're wrapped in the colors and logos of the participating schools, so you can literally pull up to your school's pump and show everybody where your loyalty lies.

Which Lubbock Schools Are In?

The program includes five Lubbock ISD high schools: Coronado, Estacado, Lubbock High, Monterey and Talkington School for Young Women Leaders.

There will be a kickoff celebration at the Toot'n Totum at 5202 Erskine Street at 9 a.m. Friday, August 14th. Student groups from all five schools will be there to help get things started.

After that, students will visit their school's designated Spirit Pump locations.

Here's where you'll find them:

• Toot'n Totum at 5202 Erskine Street: Coronado High School and Talkington School for Young Women Leaders.
• Toot'n Totum at 2424 34th Street: Lubbock High School and Estacado High School.
• Toot'n Totum at 2504 South Loop 289: Monterey High School.

A Pretty Easy Way to Give Back

The Spirit Pumps program will run for 15 weeks, wrapping up before Thanksgiving break.

That means every time you're filling up between now and then, you've got an opportunity to put a few cents toward helping keep Lubbock ISD students and campuses safe.

Superintendent Kathy Rollo said the program connects the community through something people already do every day while directly supporting students.

And that's really the beauty of it.

You don't have to organize a fundraiser. You don't have to sell wrapping paper. You don't even have to dig through the couch cushions for five bucks.

Just fill up your tank.

And if you happen to see your school's colors wrapped around the pump, even better!
