A famous restaurant that has Chicago roots is under construction in Lubbock.

Portillo's officially broke ground recently and the building, behind The Plaza Restaurant off the Marsha Sharp Freeway and Milwaukee, has started going up.

Portillo's in Lubbock

Last October we learned that Portillo's, famous for their Chicago-style hotdogs and sandwiches, would be adding a location in Lubbock. Over the last few years, Portillo's has been spreading across the United States, adding numerous locations in Texas.

Portillo's was founded in Illinois in 1963 and has grown in the number of locations over the last few years.

What's On The Portillo's Menu?

For those who haven't been to a Portillo's. You can expect to see burgers on the menu, but what they are really known for are the hot dogs, Chicago-style and chili cheese along with their Italian beef and sausage sandwiches.

Both the dogs and sandwiches are very good from my one experience going to a Portillo's while visiting Chicago years ago.

When Will Portillo's In Lubbock Open?

No word yet on when the grand opening will be, but it seems like they should be open sometime this year.

Portillo's will be located in the Canyon West Shopping Center off the Marsha Sharp Freeway and Milwaukee Avenue.
