Texas Tragedy: Infant Dies After Toddler Finds Loaded Gun in Car

ABC News reported on a recent press briefing, in what San Antonio Police Chief William McManus calls a "terrible, terrible tragedy", where an infant died after being accidentally shot by a toddler.

How did the Toddler Get a Gun?

My SA stated that on October 21st, a San Antonio woman was in her parked car with three children in the backseat, ages 3, 2, and 10 months. There was also a loaded gun located in the back of the car. When one of the older children got ahold of the weapon, they accidentally pulled the trigger, firing a bullet straight into the youngest child.

Coincidentally, the car was parked in a hospital parking lot, but when life-saving procedures were conducted on the infant, it was already too late.

10-month-old Khamari Khols Lang was pronounced dead at the scene due to the gunshot wound.

It's unclear as to what charges will be brought to the woman for improper and unsafe storage of a loaded firearm with young children in the car, but this is not nearly the first case of accidental shootings from children.

How Many Children Accidentally Shoot Themselves or Others?

According to Everytown Research, there were at least 200 unintentional shootings by children so far in 2024, and 78 were fatal.
