Texas Chicken Crowned Oldest Living in the World
Texas is starting to become a Guinness World Record pumping machine! Not too long ago we heard of the leaping cat who broke a world record, and now we've all fallen in love with Pearl, a 14 year old chicken who loves to fall asleep on flip-flops.
Move over, spring chickens, Texas has a new feathered legend. Pearl, a Little Elm hen, has defied the odds and claimed the Guinness title for oldest living chicken at the ripe old age of 14. Pearl’s journey began back on March 13, 2011, when owner Sonya Hull hatched her in a personal incubator.
As an Easter Egger hen, Pearl was expected to live between five and eight years, but she clearly had other plans. Over the years, she’s slowed down a bit, trading outdoor adventures for cozy days in the family’s laundry room, where she occasionally ventures out to the living room to watch TV. She’s also formed an unlikely friendship with the family’s elderly cat and their new kitten, who sometimes curls up right beside her.

Pearl’s remarkable run officially made history on May 22, when Guinness World Records confirmed her age at 14 years and 69 days. Just to prove she’s still got it, Pearl laid an egg shortly after the family got the news, a fitting celebration for a hen who’s beaten the odds!
Her title comes just months after the previous record-holder, an Illinois chicken named Peanut, passed away at 21 years old. While Peanut may still hold the all-time record, Pearl now reigns as the oldest living chicken, proudly representing Texas one cluck at a time.
And in true Texas style, Pearl isn’t just sitting on her laurels, she’s sitting on her nest, ready to prove that even at 14, she’s still got plenty of cluck left.
