Texas Tech’s Jack Anderson Named Freshman All-American
Jack Anderson plays an offensive position that, especially at Texas Tech, is generally just talked about unless they have a bad game. That's not why he's getting mentioned today, though. Anderson has been named Freshman All-American by ESPN.
Jack Anderson started all 12 games so far for the Red Raiders in 2017 as a true freshman according to texastech.com. Anderson, a native of Frisco, Texas, is the first Red Raider to be named a Freshman All-American since both Davis Webb and Baker Mayfield garnered the accolade following the 2013 season. He joins current Indianapolis Colts standout Le'Raven Clark (2012) as the only Texas Tech offensive linemen in school history to be recognized on a Freshman All-American team.
Jack Anderson had several appearances on the Pro Football Focus Big 12 team of the week and was named to the national team on Oct. 17 following the West Virginia game.
Anderson plays along an offensive front that will all return next season featuring only one upperclassman in Junior Center Paul Stawarz.
The ESPN recap on Anderson in the Freshman All-American list points out that with Anderson, Texas Tech rushed for nearly a yard more per carry than it had in 2016. They also had more than 400 more rushing yards as a team compared to 2016 and four more touchdowns from running backs.
