Joann Fabrics To Close Over 500 Locations: Will Lubbock Survive?
Lubbock, Texas loves Joann's Fabrics, but will they love us back?
I'm A Fan
You might not think a 6'4 210 pound tattooed knucklehead like me would be a Joann's customer, but I am in fact, a regular customer. Not only do I have a wife who makes beautiful purses, I have a number of other needs for my haunted houses. We make and dress props, add detail work, and sometimes just buy straight-up Halloween items from Joann's. The idea of a world without Joann's fabrics is a little rough for us, because there's so much there that we can't buy online or in other stores.
The News
I have good news and bad news. The good news is, for now the Lubbock store is not on the list of the over 500 stores targeted for closure. The bad news is, that 18 other Texas stores are closing, including nearby ones in Odessa and Abilene (come shop Lubbock!).
The Closures
Joann Fabrics currently operates about 850 stores, so they'll be dropping down to a little over 300 (sorry we can't be more specific at this time). The store has been through bankruptcy twice and hopefully, these cuts will be enough to keep the remaining stores open.
Wrapping It Up
It seems to me that when things get more expensive skills like sewing are more in demand. There is a lot of joy in creating something useful, whether it's as simple as a blanket or pillow, or as complex as a shirt or purse. I would encourage everyone to drop by and enjoy our Joann store in Lubbock while you can, because you never know what tomorrow will bring.
