I don't comment on people's pages anymore. I bring that wisdom straight up to the masses.

A person had posted that we had "`163 cases today in Lubbock" (this was Friday) and I saw this idiocy online as a followup:

"and No deaths and a 98% recovery rate!! Include that please!"

Of course, this is a passive-aggressive attempt at diminishing the threat of the virus.  Let's take the odds and use some ancient Chinese wisdom and spell this out. Let's say that we're doing GREAT against this, it doesn't change exponential growth. Exponential growth was explained this way; think of a checkerboard/chessboard. There are just 64 squares. That doesn't sound like much. There is a fable where a man asks to be paid just one grain of rice on the first square, but then it doubles on the second square and so on....This is represented like 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, and so on. Well, by the time you get to the end of that chessboard the final total is 18,446,744,073,709,551,615 grains of rice.

So, our problem is that a lot of the people who go into the hospital for coronavirus stay there for a bit, then additional people come in and so on and on. Sure, It's not the perfect exponential growth as measured above, but it's more than enough to cause a problem.

Myself, I'm somewhat confident the fine folks AT UMC and Covenant take excellent care of the victims of this deadly disease, what I'm not confident in, is if they have to put hospitals offsite, in the Civic Center or in any available space. THEN you have a problem of inferior care and quite frankly, not enough medical professionals to go around.
