This might sound ridiculous, but aside from someone I love getting ill, my biggest fear in this coronavirus pandemic was losing Alamo Drafthouse. It really means that much to me, and other Alamo fans "get it."

It's a cultural gem in Lubbock. A happy place for movie buffs, pop culture geeks, serious film scholars, and art house weirdos. Film, like music, is my spiritual lifeblood. It brings so much joy and beauty into my life. It's as good as seeing a great band live, and that is saying a lot. And, believe it or not, they have the best-frozen margaritas I've ever had. I miss my Alamo!

Our Alamo Drafthouse in Lubbock wants to assure us that this crisis isn't the end credits; it's just an intermission. That's an enormous relief to me and many others. Even if you don't go see any of the stranger selections, it's just a plain wonderful theater run by lovely people, and the food is so dang good.

One thing the theater is famous for is their never-ending, enormous bowls of popcorn. If you miss the taste of their popcorn, you're in luck. This Friday, April 24th from 3 to 5 p.m., Lubbock's Alamo Drafthouse (120 W Loop 289) is giving away free popcorn to encourage you to have your own family movie night at home. And it's a drive-up deal, so you can stay safe.

If you're looking for a great movie to watch, you can head over to drafthouse.com/alamo-at-home for a great selection of new and classic movies to stream.
