Brews With A View: In Defense Of Lubbock ‘Breastaurants’

Lubbock is home to a few establishments that are, shall we say, "themed." Or to put it bluntly and a little crudely, they are Breastaurants.

What Is a Breastaurant, And Do We Have Them In Lubbock?

Lubbock can be a little prudish, as evidenced by a recent post I saw in a Lubbock food group. To paraphrase, the poster asked about the legality of Ooo La Lattes and claimed it was somehow unsanitary and "trashy."

Ooo La Lattes is a locally owned and highly successful drive-through coffee shop founded by Texas Tech alumnus Joe Garcia. It is arguably also a "breastraunt."

Breastraunt is a term that was coined in the 90s after the success of the O.G.s in the game- Hooters.

There have been several establishments that have followed suit, including places like Twin Peaks, Ojos Locos, Bombshells, and the now-defunct (and possibly the wildest) Bikini's.

We've had several such places in Lubbock- some have made it and others have closed up shop.

On the surface, it is a place that serves food and drinks and eyefuls of nearly nude women. However, I know that isn't the recipe for success that so many of these places achieve. It's deeper than that.

Why Are Breastaurants So Successful In Lubbock?

If you've ever been to Twin Peaks on a Friday night, you've seen the place packed to the gills with all types of people- big tables of friends, couples on dates, even families with kids.

And you've also seen plenty of pretty girl flesh. Which I would never complain about. But I will say that's not exactly what people are coming for.

The recipe for success at a breastaurant isn't the beautiful girls per se, it is the incredible attention to service for their customers.

Twin Peaks and Ooo La Lattes work because they treat their customers like the very best of friends- the servers/ baristas are incredibly attentive and friendly.

That warmth and kindness are backed by incredible products too, whether it's great coffee and energy drinks (Ooo La Lattes) or great meals with excellent bar drinks (Twin Peaks).

Could a coffee shop or restaurant/ bar achieve this level of success without the skimpy clothing? Absolutely! If you have servers that treat every customer with that level of personal attention and back it with great food and drinks, you will succeed.

But the pretty ladies don't hurt your chances of getting a few feet in the door. Minus that aforementioned prudish food group guy.
