Is diversity in the workplace an important issue?
The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce will be taking on a subject many local and national businesses have been talking about for years. Diversity in the workplace and how it can be achieved.
The theme of this year's event put on by the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce is Diversity and Inclusion: Opportunities not Obstacles. The event will be held on Wednesday, November 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at The Overton Hotel and Conference Center. The event will feature experts locally and nationally who will discuss why diversity in the workplace is important. According to the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, one guest is a TED talk speaker and there will be sessions that cover different aspects of business.
This year’s keynote speaker is Marcus Bullock, the CEO of Flikshop, TED speaker, and a part of John Legend’s Unlocked Futures business accelerators. Bullock recently launched the Flikshop School of Business, where his team introduces tech and entrepreneurship strategies to returning citizens. He shares his message to help build stronger communities, more diverse companies, and more inclusive universities.
Sessions will cover a variety of topics including beyond compliance for true ROI, finding new pathways to hiring success and service animals in the workplace. Presenters will also discuss and explore how diversity is evolving beyond numbers into belonging and companies who are getting it right.
After the event there will be a networking reception held at The Overton Hotel. Tickets for the summit costs $250 and include lunch, the summit, and reception after. Members of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce will be able to purchase tickets for $150. For more information visit the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce website.
