Lubbock City Manager Selects New Fire Chief
Wednesday afternoon, the City of Lubbock announced that City Manager Jarrett Atkinson appointed Shaun Fogerson as the new chief for the Lubbock Fire Department.
Fogerson is currently a Deputy Chief for the department and his promotion is subject to approval by the Lubbock City Council.
According to the city, Fogerson joined the Lubbock Fire Department in 1992 and was promoted to Deputy Chief- Operations in October 2015.
Fogerson holds a bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from Texas Tech University, a Texas Commission on Fire Protection Advanced Firefighter Certification and is currently participating in the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program. In addition, he is a United States Marine Corp veteran. He has also been recognized for his service to Lubbock including being awarded the Medal of Valor by the city. Fogerson was also named the Lubbock Area United Way 2017 Campaign Volunteer of the Year.
“Chief Lance Phelps left the department in a tremendous position,” said Atkinson. “Chief Fogerson competed against very highly qualified peers during the selection process. He brings the ability to both continue the current success of the department and also provide vision and leadership for advancement and improvements in service to our community.”

Fogerson’s appointment will be considered at the Lubbock City Council meeting on May 14, 2019.
