Does Lubbock Have A Community Garden?

Yes. The Heart of Lubbock Community Garden is "open to all and everyone to plant, take produce, and make art." It is located at 2324 21st Street.

However, the community garden was forced to clarify that stealing other people's plants is not part of the deal.

While some of these plants can be repurchased and replanted, the theft is a loss of money and growing time.

Additionally, plants don't respond well to frequent replantings, so I worry that it was all a waste anyway and that the stolen plants will die.

Lubbock Residents Respond To Plant Theft At The Community Garden

Many Lubbock residents responded with disappointment at the theft.

How terrible, I’m so sorry Heart of Lubbock Community Garden was disrespected this way. They are here to help and teach our community

Wow! see it takes one to ruin it for all. Y’all help us with free veggies (healthy foods) for someone to be greedy and take the whole thing. I’m sorry this happened.

Others offered ideas for increased security of the garden.

We need some game cameras set up to watch out for thieves of all varieties. What a shame.

Need to have some surveillance now sadly

And many Lubbockites offered to pitch in and help.

I have extra tomato plants. Can I bring them over and plant them over the next few days?

Set up a Venmo for donations so we can help restore the garden
