The Places In Lubbock That Make Us Feel Frustrated
There are places in Lubbock you visit because you’re excited, relaxed, or simply killing time. And then, there are places you only go when you’re already angry and ready to stay that way. These are not destinations. They are emotional confirmations.
The DMV is the obvious one. Nobody wakes up calm and decides today feels like a great day to deal with government paperwork. You arrive tense, leave worse, and somehow still forgot one document you were specifically told to bring. Things have gotten slightly better over the years, but it's still not a fun place to be.
Next up: any fast-food drive-thru after 9 p.m. when the lobby is closed and the menu board feels like it’s mocking you. The speaker crackles, the line doesn’t move, and by the time you reach the window, you're wishing you'd stayed home and thrown a frozen pizza in the oven.
Then there’s Walmart, which is only peaceful if you’re lying to yourself. You go in “real quick” and come out 47 minutes later with things you didn’t need, things you forgot, and a deep resentment toward everyone who stopped in the middle of the aisle.
And finally: the emergency errand run in Lubbock traffic, where every red light lasts forever, and every other driver is personally trying to ruin your day. You weren’t mad when you left the house, but by the time you get home, you're furious, and it's time to stand in front of the fridge and cram a cold rotisserie chicken down your throat.
