From Pajamas To Boots, Lubbock’s Dress Code Surprises
Lubbock doesn't have an official dress code, but it absolutely has a dress code. It's basically unspoken, loosely enforced, and totally inconsistent depending on where you are. We've got certain fits for certain places, and they are simply non-negotiable.
Let's break it down, shall we?
Lubbock's Unofficial Dress Code (Based on Where You're Going)
Grocery Shopping: This is one place where anything goes. Jammies, house shoes, gym clothes from 2007, someone in wedding attire, all on the same aisle. As long as you cover your funny business, nobody is going to bat an eye. Bonus points if you run into your grandparents, your boss, or your ex.
Church: Lubbock church fits are no joke. This is where people in town show up to show out..for the lord, or whatever. Men are rocking button-ups and boots. Women are going full outfits, hair, and accessories. Even if you don't go to church very often, this is one place everyone gets extra fancy for, no matter the occasion.
Bars (Broadway/Depot/Random Dive): This is where things get confusing... You're going to have women dressed like it's a Vegas nightclub taking shots with women who are still in their nursing uniform. There will be Jordans. But, there will also be a healthy number of Crocs. It takes all kinds around here.
"I Just Need To Run One Errand": This is the most dangerous category of them all because things can go very, very sideways. You throw on an old t-shirt and shorts with a weird stain, thinking nobody will see you. They will. Not only will you see everyone you're ever met, you'll see the person you are trying the hardest to impress, and ALSO the person you are trying the hardest to AVOID. It's going to happen. Be prepared.
Special Events (Weddings, Rodeos, Anything Fancy-ish): This is where Lubbock really shines the brightest. Half of us will be very formal. Ballgowns. Tuxes. The whole 9 yards. The other half will also be very formal, in a very informal way...boots, jeans, and a nice shirt is considered pretty snazzy around here.
At the end of the day, Lubbock fashion is more about confidence and less about rules. We're much more concerned with how cold the beer is at the bar than we are in our friend's fancy shoes, and I think that makes us pretty special.
