I am genuinely surprised that we didn’t score bigger on this survey.

Easter celebrations are pretty simple and generally involve things like church, an Easter egg hunt, and maybe a picnic. There really isn’t too much to it. You’d think with the number of church services across Lubbock and our usual sunshine-filled weather, we’d land much higher.

Instead, Lubbock came in at #83 out of 100 in the “Best Places To Celebrate Easter” report from WalletHub. So what went wrong? To figure that out, we have to look at how the rankings were calculated.

Breaking Down the Easter Score

The study used four main categories:

  • Easter Observers
  • Easter Traditions
  • Kid’s Easter
  • Easter Weather

And here’s where things took a turn—Lubbock didn’t perform well in “Easter Traditions” or “Easter Weather.”

Now, I don’t know about you, but blaming the weather feels a little off. Sure, it can warm up quickly out here, but we’re not exactly melting chocolate bunnies in March. Still, apparently the numbers didn’t do us any favors.

What About the Kids?

I was especially curious about the “Kid’s Easter” category. That score was based on:

  • Share of kids ages 9 and under
  • Acres of parkland per capita

So, in theory, more kids plus more outdoor space equals a better Easter experience. That makes sense… but it also feels like one of those “on paper” stats that doesn’t quite capture real life. Because if you’ve ever been to a packed Easter egg hunt in Lubbock, you know—we show up.

Could Lubbock Do More For Easter?

It does make you wonder if Lubbock could become more of an Easter destination if everything were a bit more unified. With so many churches and organizations hosting their own events, things are a little spread out. That’s great for options—but maybe not so great for ranking metrics.

Still, that doesn’t mean we’re lacking in spirit.

The Event That Says Otherwise

At this point, I’d take a little exception to the rankings and point to something that feels very Lubbock—fun, community-driven, and just a little different.

The Lubbock Animal Services 3rd Annual Easter Egg Hunt For The Dogs.

Because honestly… what could be more fun than that?
