What Luxury Can’t Lubbock Live Without? The Answers Might Surprise You
The RockShow recently asked listeners a deceptively simple question: What luxury can you not live without? The answers that came rolling in were less about yachts and private jets and more about basic survival…plus a few deeply personal deal-breakers.
At the top of the list, Lubbockites made one thing very clear: electricity, running water, HVAC, and hot baths are not “luxuries,” they’re non-negotiable. Take away air conditioning or hot water, and you’re not just uncomfortable, you’re actively spiraling. Several listeners treated soft toilet paper and wet wipes with the same level of seriousness, which says a lot about where we draw the line as a society. We are creatures of comfort. That's for sure.
Comfort and sanity followed close behind. Gaming PCs, Xbox Live, Spotify, guitars, earbuds, and unlimited data were all described as essential tools for emotional regulation. One listener warned that losing their gaming PC would put “everyone else in danger,” which feels like a fair public service announcement.
Food preferences revealed their own kind of loyalty. Pop-Tarts, green chile, Folgers coffee, beer, and bourbon were all named with pride. One person simply answered “food,” cutting through the nonsense entirely.

Modern convenience also had a strong showing. Backup cameras were defended passionately, DoorDash was praised for eliminating unnecessary pants, and noise-canceling headphones were credited with preserving inner peace. Heated blankets, comfy sweatpants, long hot showers, and playlist control rounded out the list.
The takeaway is just as I suspected. Folks, Lubbock luxury isn’t flashy. It’s practical, comforting, and just barely holding our lives together. Just about sums it up, huh?
