A new survey has some disappointing results about Lubbock. Despite it's "family friendly" reputation, the Hub City had a very poor showing when it comes to raising kids.

Probably the thing I've heard most about Lubbock is "It's a great place to raise a family". Survey says (ding!) That is a lie.

The Myth of Lubbock’s Family-Friendly Image

While I certainly hope you're having great success raising your kids in Lubbock, the facts say they would do better elsewhere. It's a little heartbreaking because most of us can't pick up and move.

We should drop back at this point and say that if you're an active parent, probably any place is a great place to raise your kids. You probably make opportunities where there are none and supplement their education when you can.

A recent Wallethub survey places Lubbock #121 out of #181 cities. Our friends in Albuquerque even performed one better at #120. Again, Wallethub surveys go so deep with their metrics, you can't really argue with the results.

This study looked at "Family Fun", "Affordability", "Health & Safety", "Education & Childcare", and "Socioeconomics".  These categories were made up of numerous metrics and weighed to come up with the totals.

There is no real highlight for the Hub City in this survey with the town performing poorly across the board. Lubbock received it's highest score in "Education & Childcare" and still came in at just #65.

Lubbock should look at studies like this as a "report card for the town" and strive to do a little bit better. I would have to say that the kids are worth it.
