Lubbock Featured On Wheel Of Fortune, And Things Go Wrong
Lubbock was featured last night (November 6th) on Wheel Of Fortune
It's All Over Facebook
Thank goodness my Facebook feed full of election rants was filled with something different. I know I saw at least a half-dozen screen shots of Lubbock being featured on Wheel of Fortune. I had no idea that so many people in the Hub City even watched the show with TV viewership so fractured and a lot of people opting for streaming channels. I have to say, it's a bit heart-warming that so many people got to enjoy this moment.
How It Went Down
The puzzle was simple. The answer was "DALLAS, HOUSTON, & LUBBOCK, TEXAS". Lubbock was obviously thrown in there to make the puzzle a bit more challenging, but a lot of people from around here took it as, "Yeah, in your face, Austin!" (or Amarillo, or El Paso, or whatever place they felt like dissing). I'll admit that when you come from a smaller metro like Lubbock that it is a treat to know someone from the outside world knows about you. There's just one problem...
The Problem
So what's the problem with this recognition? The problem is, the person guessing the clue obvious had no idea who the heck we were, or at least how to pronounce the name of the town, opting for "Lube-ock", instead of "Lub-bawk,"Lub-buck" or "Lub-beck" if you prefer. I guess you could go on all day trying to explain the pronunciation of the town's name, but she pretty much went with the worst/dumbest option.
The Result
So in the end, is it good, or is it bad? It's unquestionably good, even if the name of the town was mangled by the player. Heck, everybody's posting it here and out in the gret big world there's people watching the sound too low to care, and/or correcting her on her bad pronunciation. Let's just bask in those screen caps, and try to forget, the clueless competitor.
