On Monday, January 17th, a Lubbock man was arrested after it's said he threw a sledgehammer through a car's window and hit the driver.

It all began near North Sherman Avenue and Bates Street that afternoon. The suspect, 43-year-old Francisco Bazan, along with another unidentified man, were arguing in the front yard of a woman's house. She told them to leave, and they complied. The woman's relation to either men wasn't made clear.

KAMC News reports that the woman then got into her vehicle, intending to tell Bazan's sister what had happened. While at the intersection of North Sherman and Bates, the victim says that Bazan ran towards her car and threw a sledgehammer through the window, hitting her in the right shoulder.

On arrival, an officer noted a bruise and cut on the victim's shoulder. The sledgehammer was also found in the front floorboard of the vehicle.

The victim pointed out that the suspect was in a nearby backyard. He was taken into custody. Bazan wouldn't tell officers how he sustained the injuries he was found with.

Bazan was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and had his bond set at $25,000. However, he was additionally charged with failure to register as a sex offender, and his bond went up to $125,000 after that charge was added.
