Lubbock is near a measles outbreak and there's something you should know.

Facts Texans Should Know

Take everything you know about contagious diseases and just throw it out the window. Measles is incredibly contagious. You would think if you aren't around someone with red bumps or that you just wash your hands enough, you would be in the clear, but you're not.

Texas Measles Outbreak

Now Everything Lubbock is reporting that ,measles is making it's way through a daycare. You may have also seen reports claiming that someone with measles was in a Target or a Walmart. There was also a report of dorm exposure. So what's the big deal? Why does it matter that you were in the same space with somebody that has measles, if you didn't come into contact with them.

A Terrible Fact

I was talking to a doctor about the outbreak and he gave me a crazy fact.  We were in a room that was maybe ten foot by twelve foot. He told me that measles is so infectious, that if someone was in the room two hours prior, you'd still have a 90% chance of catching the measles. That is more infectious than infectious!

It's Your Call

I'm not hear to argue for vaccinations or give you any directives at all. What you do with your body, or how you raise your children is up to you. What I am telling you is, if you have not been vaccinated, you can expect that measles will most likely be in your future. For most people it's a rash, a fever, and some discomfort for a few days, for other people it can result in brain swelling and/or death. It's up to you if you want to take the risk.
