Lubbock understood this assignment, and in my opinion, came up with an undisputable list.

I was sitting in a car wash at 5:58 on a Sunday morning just letting my mind wander, when I thought: “Who should be on a Mount Rushmore of rock?”

This drill presents a number of challenges. First off, we’re not talking about bands—we’re talking about individuals. Second, this isn’t about creating a perfect lineup with a vocalist, guitarist, bassist, and drummer. It’s about choosing the absolute icons.

My Personal Picks

My own list was Ozzy Osbourne, Robert Plant, James Hetfield, and David Bowie. Honestly, I scored pretty well when it came to the final tabulation. Still, it was tough to leave out legends like Keith Richards, Chris Cornell, and Eddie Van Halen. I then posted the question on the FMX Facebook page and you listeners nailed it!

The Final Top Four

When all the votes were counted, the top four rock icons were:

1. Ozzy Osbourne

2. Jimi Hendrix

4. James Hetfield

It’s nearly impossible to argue with this Mount Rushmore. Every one of these names has defined rock in a massive way. If anything, Hetfield landing at #4 almost feels low, considering he’s a double threat on both vocals and guitar. And Ozzy? He absolutely smoked the competition.

One Funny Anomaly

There was only one surprise in the entire tally. As a bit of a joke, I actually picked up enough votes myself to land just after Freddie Mercury and before that massive tie. Beyond that quirk, this list is rock solid and really hard to argue with.
